by Alyson Belli (Research Policy Officer) & Sasha Hird-Saunders (Enterprise Associate).  The Student Enterprise Programme is run by the Research & Enterprise Office.

Earlier this week, we were really excited to kick off the Student Enterprise Programme 2016-2017 with an information stall at Fresher’s week. The Student Enterprise Programme is open to students from all subjects and aims to provide them with the opportunity to develop their skills for entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship (using entrepreneurial skills whilst working for a large business) throughout the academic year. This year’s programme consists of skill-building workshops, informative events, competitions, mentorship and incubation opportunities.

The programme provides support to a range of students – from those who already have an idea, business or hobby they wish to take to the next level, through to those who simply wish to develop their skills for the future world of work.

We run hour-long early evening skill-building workshops delivered by a variety of engaging expert guest speakers and infused with insight from those who have ‘been there and done it’. Sessions this autumn will cover areas such as planning, marketing, pitching and financial planning and can be attended as a series of events or as single sessions. Our full timetable can be found on the events page along with details of how to register – but be quick, we were really pleased to hear from students who had already picked out the sessions they wanted to come along to!

We were also delighted to be able to continue to offer one-to-one mentorship sessions with our Student Enterprise Manager, Alasdair Gammack. Students with an idea, start-up or desire to explore entrepreneurial activity are welcome to have an informal chat with Alasdair to explore their options and gain some expert advice! Appointments can simply be arranged by email to Student Enterprise.

Our Freshers stall also saw the official launch of our brand new initiative ‘Lunch with a Leader’, opening entries for the September lunch. Made possible by funding from the Vice Chancellor’s fund , ‘Lunch with a Leader’ provides an opportunity for up to three interested students each month to attend a free lunch at Stirling Court Hotel with a local entrepreneur/business leader. We simply asked students to submit a brief answer to; ‘Why are you hungry to talk entrepreneurship?’. We hope that students find these lunches inspiring and insightful and can’t wait to welcome our three lucky winners and Leader of the Month, to the Stirling Court Hotel – Keep your eyes out for our blog on how it went!

We had some great conversations with enterprising students and look forward to building on them and collaborating with our enterprise partners throughout the year to come.
