We’ve had a busy few months since we last blogged in September and, with today being Enterprise Day, what better a time for an update!

Since our programme launch in September we’ve have been delighted to have been joined at our events by lots of really enterprising students. This semester we will hold a total of 8 events ranging from skill building workshops, information sessions for would-be competition entrants to discussion panels and stall events.

Let’s Talk Enterprise – students take part in our myth busting quiz!

Our programme of events kicked off formally on the 29th of September with ‘Let’s Talk Enterprise’ which was a myth busting mission all about the real meaning of the tricky term ‘Enterprise’.

We have been grateful to have been joined at a number of our sessions by those in the enterprise community we work closely with. Hannah from SIE joined us for ‘Let’s Talk Planning’ and ran a brilliant session on the Business Model Canvass method of business planning which really helps to simplify the often daunting task of creating a business plan! David from Sporting Chance Initiative led a lively session ‘Let’s Talk Marketing’ and the roles a marketer has to play in businesses of all sizes. We were also joined by Heather from Enterprise Campus who imparted her hints and tips on successful pitching and presentation techniques.

Another key session we held recently brought together our team, SIE, Enterprise Campus, Sporting Chance Initiative and Converge Challenge to share information and tips on getting involved with some of the main competitions and sources of support / training for aspiring student entrepreneurs.

Another exciting component to the Student Enterprise Programme launching this year has been our hugely popular Lunch with a Leader initiative (made possible by the Vice-Chancellor’s fund). Each month up to three students have the chance to meet and learn from an experienced entrepreneurial leader whilst enjoying a free lunch at Stirling Court Hotel. To date we have held two inspiring lunches, with Anne MacColl and Ross Tuffee.

Anne MacColl, International Business Executive, meets with students to chat about their ideas and share her journey.

We’ve loved hearing how leaders and students enjoyed their lunches, but don’t take our word for it, here are some nuggets of feedback –

“This is definitely an opportunity not to be missed if you are interested in, or even starting to think about, entrepreneurship in particular”

“You lose nothing in applying but could gain a whole lot more if you win.”

“[The leaders’] wisdom and speaking from past experience was truly enlightening and I am so grateful to have had this opportunity”
